Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Legendary powerhouse Earth, Wind & Fire and recording artist Michael McDonald will launch a four week national fall tour that will make a stop in Phoenix to perform at Dodge Theatre on Tuesday, September 30. The show will begin at 7:30pm.

Earth, Wind & Fire is among the most influential, commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands of the last three decades. Formed in 1969 in Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire's 39-year history has resulted in millions of albums sold worldwide and many distinguished awards and accolades.

Founding members: Maurice White (leader, vocalist, songwriter); Philip Bailey (lead vocalist, percussionist); Verdine White (bassist); Ralph Johnson (drummer and percussionist) have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and are credited with eight Grammy Awards, four American Music Awards, honors from the NAACP, the BET Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Earth, Wind & Fire's signature sound and distinctive musical styles fuse pop, soul, jazz, rock n' roll, psychedelic, African roots music and disco with a base in funk. Hit songs include "September," "Shining Star," "Fantasy" and "Let's Groove” remain classics in contemporary music.

Five time Grammy-winner Michael McDonald has been a fixture in American pop music for over three decades. He is the creator of such hits as “I Keep Forgettin’," the Grammy-winning “Yah Mo B There," and the Number One pop single “On My Own."

Michael McDonald first came into the spotlight as part of Steely Dan’s touring band in the early 1970s. While working with Steely Dan, McDonald also joined the Doobie Brothers, where his voice became the group’s focal point on such songs as “Takin’ It to the Streets,” “Minute by Minute,” and, unforgettably, the Number One single “What a Fool Believes,” which won the 1980 Grammy as Song of the Year.
