ADOT Discusses Plans To Construct Roundabouts

ADOTThe Arizona Department of Transportation met with the public on Thursday to discuss changes to the Araby Road/Gila Ridge/ Interstate-Eight intersections.

ADOT wants to change them to roundabouts and remove the traffic signals at the intersections.  The Yuma Sun is reporting ADOT plans to start the project in 2016.

One roundabout would be on the north side of the Interstate with another placed directly south of the freeway.

A-DOT says the change needs to be done to prepare for an expected increase in traffic over the next 20 years.  About 18,000 vehicles pass through the intersection daily now.  Those numbers are expected to double in the next two decades.
