Alleged Armed Robber Makes Second Court Appearance

49 year old Gene Ellis Anaya made his second appearance in court Monday. Two women have accused him of trying to rob them of their money. Prosecutors have filed two formal charges against Anaya including one count of attempted armed robbery and one count of threatening or intimidating for allegedly implying he would injure the victims if they did not give him their money. Deputies arrested Anaya last week after two women said he tried to rob them in the 700 block of south Vaughn Avenue in Yuma. The victims ran off with no injuries. In court, the judge kept Anaya’s bond at $100,000 cash and appointed Anaya a public defender. He will be back in court later this week.
