Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne Likely To Take Stand To Defend Allegations Of Broken Campaign Finance Laws

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne is likely to take the stand to testify in his own defense against allegations he broke campaign finance laws. Horne and an aide are facing civil allegations that they worked together to sidestep election laws during his 2010 run for office. A hearing scheduled for three to four days began Monday with an FBI agent testifying that a chain of emails and cellphone records link Horne, aide Kathleen Winn and a campaign consultant. Both deny illegally coordinating spending while she ran an independent committee called Business Leaders for Arizona. Horne could take the stand today (Tuesday 11). Yavapai County Attorney Sheila Polk brought the charges in October 2013 and ordered Horne to return nearly $400,000 to donors. She also is seeking three times that amount in fines.
