Arizona Ranks Well In Recent Child Care Report

Child-Care-AwareArizona scores in the top half of the nation in a new report on child care. The Child Care Aware "We Can Do Better" 2013 rankings put Arizona 22nd overall.

The state is marked down for low staff-to-child ratios, and for having large child care groups.  But Bruce Liggett of the Arizona Child Care Association says parents are already paying up to $10,000 a year for child care, and more staffing brings additional cost.

All funded childcare in Arizona is the result of federal funding.  Arizona froze enrollment in funding programs four years ago at 48,000 children.  Through attrition, that number is now down to 25,000.
