Arizona Senator Jeff Flake Visits U.S. – Mexico Border

Jeff-FlakeArizona Republician Senator Jeff Flake visited the U.S.-Mexico border and met with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials from the Yuma sector Tuesday.

KYMA-TV reports that this visit comes during a two-week break from negotiations in Congress.  Flake is one of the so-called "Gang of Eight" bi-partisan senators drafting federal immigration reform bills.

A federal immigration overhaul could affect the estimated 11-million undocumented people living in the U.S., according to Flake.

Today, Republican Senators John McCain and Flake will take Democratic Senators Michael Bennet of Colorado and Charles E. Schumer of New York to visit the border at the Tucson sector.  Flake says he and the others will evaluate current border operations to ensure the productive flow of commerce while maintaining security at the border.
