Arizonans Are Driving Less

CarsArizona’s driving boom is over.  A new report from the Arizona PIRG Education Fund says total vehicle travel miles peaked in 2007.

PIRG’s Serena Unrein says driving is likely to decline further because of demographic changes involving the millennial generation – those born between 1983 and 2000.

Unrein says Millennials are more likely to live in walkable neighborhoods and to use bicycles and public transportation.  And she says they are driving less – 23 percent fewer miles in 2009 than in 2001.
