Arrests Made In Fatal Hit And Run Accident

More arrests have been made in the death of 14-year-old Mary Rodriguez.  The Yuma Police Department says they earlier Monday arrested 23 year old Edgar Borquez at his home in the 8100 block of Yavapai Lane. Property Tax Increases In Yuma

A property tax increase was given the green light by the Yuma County Board of Supervisors on Monday. The tax rate will now be just over two cents per one thousand dollars of property value owned. El Centro Border Patrol Rescues Heat Stricken Individuals

The El Centro Border Patrol rescued a group of illegal aliens near Old Highway 80 and Highway S-Two, approximately 22 miles west of downtown Calexico Sunday. The agent encountered four individuals, one of whom appeared to be suffering from heat related illnesses. Sex Offender Notification

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office would like to notify the community that 55 year old Merced Martinez Garcia is now residing at 725 West Canal Street in Somerton. He is a registered level two sex offender. He is described as five-feet, four-inches tall, 180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is not currently on parole or probation.   Read More »

Department Of Homeland Security Acquires Radar Blimps

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has assumed control of radar blimps used to monitor the  U.S.-Mexico border. Spokesman Bill Brooks of the Customs and Border Protection told the Yuma Sun that the department accepted the Aerostat system from the Air Force earlier this summer and will manage and maintain it for the foreseeable future.
