Sex Offender Has New Address

A convicted level 2 sex offender with a medium risk to reoffend has moved to a new address. According to the Yuma Police Department, 27-year-old Anthony Avalos now resides at 2996 South 30th Drive.

Avalos is described as 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighs about 190 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes.

On Feb. 25, 2010, Avalos accepted a plea agreement in Yuma County Superior Court for three counts of sexual conduct after a police investigation revealed he had sexual contact with teenage females.

Avalos was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years probation.

Man Who Allegedly Threatened To Kill Woman, Others Sentenced To Prison

The Yuma man who allegedly threatened to shoot a woman, kill other unspecified people and then kill himself was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison Tuesday morning in Yuma County Superior Court.

In doing so, Superior Court Judge Pro Tem Stephen J. Rouff, who presided over the case, also gave Gary Smith credit for 47 days he has already served since his arrest on the misconduct with weapon charge, which he previously plead guilty to in a plea agreement.

Man Pleads Not Guilty in Death Of Mother

An 18-year-old Flagstaff man has pleaded not guilty in the strangulation death of his mother.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that Zachariah Pine entered the plea during an arraignment Monday in Coconino County Superior Court.

Police said Pine called 911 on Feb. 20 to report that 52-year-old Becky Pickering wasn’t breathing. She was found unconscious and lying on the kitchen floor with a pool of blood around her heard.

Responders were unable to revive her, and she died the next day at a hospital. The Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office said she died from strangulation.

Man Sought In Chino Valley Bank Robbery

Authorities are asking for help locating a man they believe robbed a Chino Valley bank Friday north of Prescott.

Kevin Lee Campbell is suspected of robbing the National Bank of Arizona in the 400 block of Highway 89 at about 6:00 p.m. Friday, according to Lt. Vincent Schaan, spokesperson for the Chino Valley Police Department.

Campbell was last seen driving a tan or gold 2002 Chevy Trailblazer with Arizona plate ABD-9409. He has gray hair and green eyes and is about 5 feet 10 inches tall. Campbell was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, a dark colored baseball hat and sunglasses, Schann said.

A man accused of mailing a homemade bomb to Sheriff Joe Arpaio in April 2013 was arrested after Postal Inspectors and FBI agents executed a search warrant on his Oklahoma residence last Thursday.

Gregory Lynn Shrader, 55, of Jay, Okla., was charged with willfully making a threat after investigators discovered he tried to send an improvised explosive device through the mail to Arpaio’s headquarters in Phoenix from a post office box in Flagstaff, records show.

Postal workers in Flagstaff noticed the suspicious package by its excessive stamp postage and typewritten addressee label, according to a complaint filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Arizona.

One Teen Dead After Playing Russian Roulette

Police say a teen is dead after playing Russian Roulette over the weekend. The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old David Henry of Yuma accidently shot himself and later died as a result of the game Friday. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Alfonso Zavala tells us more.
 
The incident took place at a friend’s home in the 13000 block of South Cardinal Lane in Yuma.

Arizona Western College Hosts County-Wide Yuma Youth Town Hall

Arizona Western College is hosting a county-wide Yuma Youth Town Hall, to give Yuma County high school students an opportunity to engage in discussion of topics that affect Yuma County. The group of over 100 Yuma County high school students will gather on Friday at the Schoening Center at AWC’s main campus. These students will have been surveyed prior to the Town Hall to gather topics that are important to them.  These 100 plus students then voted on which topics will be the focus of future youth Town Halls.
 
The Yuma Youth Town Hall will run from 9am to 1pm on Friday.
