Border Patrol Agents Make Marijuana Arrest

United States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector arrested a man from Guatemala, found illegally present in the United States and carrying 23 lbs of marijuana. They also located another 176 lbs of marijuana abandoned at multiple locations in the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge. The smuggler was apprehended along the Colorado River, about 100 yards north of Los Algodones, Mexico, Sunday morning. He was turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, along with the marijuana.  Agents tracking footprints in the Refuge Friday found five abandoned backpacks, three of which held a combined 137 lbs of marijuana. The remaining backpacks contained food and other supplies. In a third incident Sunday, agents found 39 more pounds of abandoned marijuana in the area. The abandoned drugs, worth over $90,000 will be destroyed in accordance with
Border Patrol guidelines.
