Border Patrol Agents Track Down Smugglers To Make Drug Bust

US-Border-PatrolUnited States Border Patrol agents from Yuma Sector’s Wellton Station arrested eight drug smugglers south of the Palomas exit off Interstate-Eight Monday.  

Agents discovered footprints and tracked them for about a half mile until they came upon a group of backpackers hiding in heavy brush with 355 pounds of marijuana. 

The group, six Mexican nationals and two Honduran nationals, had crossed through the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge as they made their way north.  The smugglers, and the estimated over $177,000 worth of narcotics, were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
