Border Patrol Apprehends 15 Drug Smugglers On Wednesday

US-Border-PatrolUnited States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector arrested 15 drug smugglers and seized over 1,200 pounds of marijuana in four separate incidents Wednesday. 

Agents apprehended two groups of Mexican nationals smuggling marijuana south of the Butterfield exit, off Interstate-Eight.

In the southwestern portion of the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge, an agent found and followed vehicle tracks to an abandoned All-Terrain Vehicle loaded with 644 pounds of marijuana. 

Along Highway 85, near mile-marker-12, an agent located an additional 97 pounds of abandoned marijuana hidden under a tree.  Combined, the drugs had an estimated value of $642,000.
