Agents using night vision equipment first spotted a group of seven smugglers walking through the desert. With help from a helicopter crew from the Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Air and Marine, agents were able to apprehend the group carrying a combined 296 pounds of marijuana.
As agents were securing the individuals and narcotics from the first group, another group of six smugglers were discovered nearby. Agents quickly apprehended the second group carrying another 294 pounds of marijuana. The total estimated worth of the marijuana was $295,000.
