On Sunday, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio Station apprehended a suspected narcotics smuggler at the Highway 86 checkpoint and seized approximately ten-pounds of methamphetamine.
A 43-year-old female driver and her 16-year-old son approached the Border Patrol checkpoint located between Westmorland and Salton City. A canine detection team alerted the vehicle as it approached the primary inspection lane.
The vehicle was promptly referred to secondary inspection where agents discovered ten packages of methamphetamine concealed within an aftermarket compartment underneath the back seat.
The methamphetamine had an estimated street value of more than 332-thousand-dollars. The female driver, a citizen of Mexico with a B-1/B-2 Visa, was taken into custody without incident.
