Border Patrol Discovers 285 Pounds Of Marijuana After Rescuing Men From River

US-Border-PatrolUnited States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Station’s Boat Unit rescued three men Thursday on the Colorado River.  Agents following footprints near the Colorado River and County Eighth Street observed five individuals attempting to swim west toward Mexico from the Arizona side of the river.

The boat unit was dispatched to the area where crewmembers observed two of the subjects safely reach the Mexican bank of the river.  The three remaining individuals, however, appeared to be in distress and were struggling to stay afloat.   Agents rendered immediate aide and brought the three on board.

Agents then arrested the trio after determining they were Mexican nationals illegally present in the United States.

As agents searched through brush near the river for any remaining suspects, agents discovered and seized 285 pounds of marijuana valued at over $142,000.  The men were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
