Border Patrol Seizes Over 1,200 Pounds Of Marijuana In Two Days

Marijuana-budsUnited States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector arrested 13 drug smugglers and seized over 1,200 pounds of marijuana in two days. 

Agents working north of Davidson Canyon, within the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge, found a cache of 197 pounds of abandoned marijuana Tuesday.  The drugs were seized for destruction.

Wednesday, agents working southeast of Gila Bend with night-vision equipment located a group of 14 individuals carrying backpacks of marijuana through the desert.  Once members of the group realized they had been discovered, they dropped their packs and ran.  Agents apprehended 13 men, all Mexican nationals illegally in the U.S., and seized a combined 632 pounds of narcotics. 

Also Wednesday agents found two abandoned stashes of marijuana – 228 pounds near mile marker nine on Highway 85 and 220 pounds near Papago Well within the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge.  The total estimated worth of all seized marijuana was over $638,000.
