Pilot Walks Away From Crop Dusting Helicopter Crash In Somerton


The pilot of a crop dusting helicopter in Somerton survived and walked away without injuries following an early Saturday morning crash.  The helicopter crashed in the area of Main Street and Avenue “G”.  The pilot, identified as a 35-year-old man, was extricated from his helicopter and was able to walk away from the accident.  The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating ... Sequester Cuts Hurt The National Institutes Of Health


When Congress passed the sequester cuts as part of the Budget Control Act of 2011, across-the-board reductions were imposed on a number of agencies. The National Institutes of Health lost five percent of their budget, about $1.6 billion. Yuma Desalting Plant To Conduct Emergency Drill


An emergency drill is scheduled for Tuesday at the Yuma Desalting Plant on the west side of Yuma.  The Yuma Sun says sirens will be sounded in connection with the drill around 1pm.  The drill will simulate an accidental release of chlorine at the plant.  Such drills are conducted annually.  No action or response by businesses or residents nearby the ... Brewer To Attend Memorial Services For Fallen Peace Officers


Arizona Governor Jan Brewer plans to attend two memorial ceremonies honoring fallen peace officers.  She will speak at the Arizona Department of Public Safety's fallen officer memorial ceremony at DPS headquarters this morning. Then she is scheduled to speak at the annual Arizona Peace Officers Memorial Service at the Capitol tonight.  Two officers who died last year are being honored. Read More »

Orajel Creator Dies


Family members say David Morris Kern, the creator of Orajel, a medicine aimed at fighting toothaches and later mouth sores, has died.  He was 103.  Kern died peacefully Friday at a group home in Paradise Valley.  Born in 1909 in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Kern worked as a pharmacist before becoming a salesman for Norwich and Warner ... Border Patrol Apprehends 21 Drug Smugglers


United States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector arrested 21 drug smugglers and seized a combined 783 pounds of marijuana in two days valued at more than $390,000. Border Patrol Seizes Over 1,200 Pounds Of Marijuana In Two Days


United States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector arrested 13 drug smugglers and seized over 1,200 pounds of marijuana in two days.  Agents working north of Davidson Canyon, within the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge, found a cache of 197 pounds of abandoned marijuana Tuesday.  The drugs were seized for destruction.
