Yuma Local Wins Ultimate Fighter Middle Weight Title


Yuma’s Kelvin Gastleum beat Uriah Hall for the middle weight title in the reality show Ultimate Fighter Saturday night.  It was a split decision and now Gastleum will get a huge contract with the UFC and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.  The 21-year-old attended and graduated from Kofa High School before going to North Idaho Community College to continue participating in athletics. The Arizona Western College baseball Matadors split games Saturday against South Mountain College.  South Mountain came out the winner in the first game 8-0.  The Matadors won the nightcap however edging South Mountain 9-8. Scholarship Awareness Effort Pays Off With Record Number Of Applications


Arizona Western College is proud to announce the AWC Foundation has received a record number of scholarship applications.  Christina Hawkey, Executive Director of the Foundation, says compared to the usual 200 to 300 applications per year, the Foundation received over 1,000 applications this year.  Over 50 volunteers are currently reading over 1,000 essays and scoring the applications.  Winners will be ... Yuma Man Critically Injured In ATV Accident


One person sustained life-threating injuries following an ATV accident in Yuma on Wednesday.  The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old Gary Christopher Seale from Yuma was driving the ATV at Avenue “D” and Clip Street Wednesday night, when he lost control of the ATV and rolled the vehicle.  Seale was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center and then later airlifted ... Red Cross Provides Assistance After Family Home Burns


A fire damaged a home in the southern part of Yuma on Wednesday.  Officials say the fire was at a residence near Somerton Avenue and County 12th Street.  Firefighters from Rural/Metro and the Somerton Cocopah Fire Department responded.  The American Red Cross has provided assistance to the family.  No one was injured and two dogs and a large turtle were ...
