Confidential CPS Documents Found Dumped In Phoenix Alley

The director of Arizona's child welfare agency says thousands of pages of confidential documents on abuse and neglect cases found dumped in a Phoenix alley were apparently left in a home by a former worker who moved out of state.

Department of Economic Security Director Clarence Carter says the Child Protective Services records from 2008 and 2009 were left behind in a desk drawer. Carter told the Legislature's child protective services oversight committee Monday that an investigation found the worker had taken them home to work on them and had not properly secured them. The records were left behind when she moved and were tossed into the alley later when the home was cleaned out. There is no sign they are related to 6500 uninvestigated cases now being investigated.
