The Yuma County Sheriffs’ Office and the Yuma County Office of Emergency Management are reminding everyone to take precautions and are offering some tips to avoid heat related issues: Outdoor activities and strenuous activities should be reduced, eliminated, or rescheduled to early morning or late into the evening which is normally the coolest time of the day.
Individuals at risk should stay in the coolest available place, in some cases this may not necessarily be indoors. If outdoors wear lightweight light-colored clothing, which reflects heat and sunlight, and helps your body maintain normal temperatures.
Hydrate early in the morning and drink plenty of water or other non-alcohol fluids throughout the day which helps cool the body. Try and find air-conditioned places – Air conditioning in homes and other buildings reduces danger from the heat. And do not stay out in the sun too long as sunburn makes the job of heat dissipation that much more difficult.
If you feel you have a heat related illnesses seek medical attention immediately.
