Fire Breaks Out In Yuma Residence

A home sustained damage following a fire Tuesday morning. The Yuma Fire Department says the fire broke out shortly after 8am at the residence at 500 and a half South Seventh Avenue. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the adjoining main residence on the property, bringing it under control and extinguishing it quickly.

A resident was reported to have been home at the time the fire started, but was able to evacuate and was not injured. Access to Fifth Street in the 700 and 800 block was shut down during the fire. The residence is directly across the street from Yuma High School, but the campus was not endangered and there was no disruption to school operations. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
