Fire In Residential Neighborhood

Shortly before midnight Wednesday, the Yuma Fire Department responded to a reported fire in the 1600 block of West 14th Street. Firefighters found light smoke coming from a townhouse at 1646 West 14th Street. Once inside, a bedroom was found fully engulfed in fire, and was quickly extinguished. The fire was contained to the room where it started, but the rest of the home sustained heavy smoke damage.
Two adult occupants were home at the time of the fire. The male occupant was awakened by smoke alarms in the home, and found a fire in one of the bedrooms. He attempted to extinguish the fire but was overcome by the smoke and exited the residence. He was examined by paramedics on the scene but not transported to the hospital. The other resident was able to safely evacuate.
