Government Eases Off Furloughs

Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma and Yuma Proving Ground employees got some good news from the Pentagon. The government has eased off expected furloughs. In a press release from Wednesday, employees expected an eleven day furlough – or a loss of 88 work hours.  That has now been reduced to six days, or a total of 48 hours. Congress has approved most of a large reprogramming request that they submitted in mid-May, giving them flexibility to move funds across accounts. The military services have been aggressive in identifying ways to hold down costs, and we have been successful in shifting savings to meet their highest priority needs.  Employees’ final furlough day will come as soon as next week.
