Off Duty Paramedic Saves Child At Gateway Park

Gateway-ParkThe Yuma Fire Department says a young child nearly drowned over the weekend at Gateway Park.  Officials say when they arrived near the Ocean-to-Ocean Bridge Sunday, a 5-year-old male child was alert and had regained consciousness. 

The child was unresponsive and face down in the water when paramedics were called.  Christy Rivera, an off duty Rural Metro Paramedic, was in the area and acted immediately.  She assessed the child’s condition and began CPR. 

The child was further treated by Paramedics and transported toYuma Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
