A University of Arizona Police Department sergeant has been arrested after crashing a department vehicle while on duty.
The Arizona Daily Star reports Tucson police cited and released 27 year old Sergeant John McGrath on Saturday night for DUI and other charges. Sergeant Pete Dugan says McGrath crashed the marked SUV into a traffic sign and then struck a cement wall on an I-10 frontage road, near Speedway Boulevard. Dugan says no one was injured.
Authorities say McGrath is accused of several offenses including super extreme DUI, having a blood alcohol content of 0.20 or greater and criminal damage. A UA police spokesman says McGrath has been with the department since 2009 and returned a month ago from serving in Afghanistan with the Army Air National Guard.
