Paradise Casinos’ Free Comedy Night hits the jackpot once again with this month’s comedians, Jack Mayberry and Bob Kubota, during the humorous and customary event happening on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. inside Sharky’s Lounge, as usual.
Mayberry discovered his ability and passion for stand-up nearly 25 years ago and didn’t think twice about leaving a successful career in broadcasting to pursue his dream. After his honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps, Mayberry landed a job in radio which he found liberating since it provided him with the perfect platform for broadcasting his once held back humorous personality. Soon after, Mayberry was a drive-time air personality in one of the top ten markets in the nation where he remained for the next eight years until he discovered stand-up comedy.
Within five years from his 1984 stellar performance at the Comedy Workshop in Houston, Texas, Mayberry realized he had found his calling and signed off on his radio career and began traveling around the country headlining at colleges, comedy clubs and corporate events. He moved to Hollywood and appeared regularly on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and then Jay Leno—over twenty-five appearances in total. Since then, Mayberry has appeared on numerous television programs including, A & E’s "Evening at the Improv” and NBC’s "Hot Country Nights.” During Jay Leno’s first week as host of the Tonight Show, Mayberry was asked to appear in a comedy sketch as presidential candidate Ross Perot, a persona he continued to perfect and perform around the country.
Mayberry is a nationally touring headliner with opening acts in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. In his stand-up career, Mayberry has opened for Paul Anka, Rodney Dangerfield, Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Pam Tillis, Jerry Reed, Moe Bandy, Juice Newton and the legendary Gregory Hines. He also appears at corporate events for leading companies such as PepsiCo, Texaco and General Electric. In addition to his "dead on" caricature of Ross Perot, his crowds are also treated to his clean and funny stand-up comedy.
Opening for Mayberry will be the sarcastically funny, Bob Kubota, a Phoenix, Arizona local TV host and accomplished magician. His penchant for dry wit, lighthearted sarcasm and deciphering life's ironies has led him to the majority of the contiguous 48 states as well as Alaska and Hawaii. Kubota tours regularly with the “Comics On Duty” providing comic relief to American military troops stationed around the globe including Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, England, Iceland, Hungary, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Japan, Korea, Singapore and many more. He has appeared on nearly a dozen comedy programs featuring stand-ups from Comedy Central to A&E and MTV. Kubota has also performed at the Improv in Hollywood, Irvine, Tempe, Las Vegas & Reno, the Ice House in Pasadena and The Funny Bone in St. Louis.
