A piece of New York City and the memory of the terrorist attacks of 9/11 will live on in Yuma. On Wednesday, the 12th anniversary of those attacks, a dedication ceremony was held at the number one station of the Yuma Fire Department. The City of Yuma unveiled a memorial that includes an I-beam recovered from the Twin Towers. The City requested it from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in 2009 and had to meet requirements. Marianne Pyburn was a receptionist on the 14th floor in one of the Twin Towers seven years before 9/11. She tells KYMATV she remembers this event even though she was a lucky survivor.
Pyburn said seeing a piece of the Twin Towers in Yuma brings her a step closer to healing.
