Somerton Tamale Festival A Big Success

This weekend's Seventh Annual Somerton Tamale Festival brought 30,000 folks out to Main Street in Somerton to feast on dozens of varieties of tamales. Organizers told KSWTTV this will generate between $25,000 and $30,000 and it is all going to a good cause. The Somerton Tamale Festival is not just about eating delicious spicy or sweet tamales from a selection of more than 40 vendors. The festival helps raise money so local students can afford tuition at Arizona State University. The event is run by the local El Diablito Alumni Chapter, which is made up of Arizona State University alumni who have returned to work and live in the Southern Yuma County area. An organizer says more than $75,000 tamales were sold on Saturday.
