Town Of Buckeye Plans To Be Recognized As A City

Town officials want Buckeye to be more than just a town. With more than 56,000 residents and a planning area of 650 square miles, Buckeye has room to grow. To usher in that future, town leaders say they want the community to be recognized as a city. Buckeye residents will vote Tuesday to decide whether that happens. Supporters tell The Arizona Republic the status change could help raise the profile of the nation's ninth-fastest-growing community, spur economic development and eventually create more jobs.
