United States Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector arrested four drug smugglers and seized 791 pounds of marijuana, worth almost $400,000, in separate incidents during the last two days. Wednesday, agents observed subjects running across the Colorado River into Mexico. By back-tracking their footprints, the agents located 225 pounds of marijuana buried under dirt and brush. The drugs were turned over to the Yuma County Narcotics Task Force. Tuesday, agents arrested four Mexican nationals west of Gila Bend caught transporting 566 pounds of marijuana. The smugglers were following one of several known smuggling routes through the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge. The four subjects and marijuana were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
