Border Patrol agents at Yuma Sector’s Wellton Station apprehended five men Thursday and seized 738-pounds of marijuana valued at $331,000in three separate incidents.
Agents of the All-Terrain Vehicle Unit patrolling in the Gila Bend area located footprints of individuals who had illegally entered into the United States. The agents tracked the footprints to a deep wash and saw five individuals attempting to hide behind nearby brush and vegetation. The agents arrested the five men, and a search of the immediate area revealed five backpacks of marijuana. The marijuana had a combined weight of 248-pounds, with an estimated worth of $111,000. The five men and marijuana were transported to the Wellton Station for further processing.
In another incident in the same area, agents tracking a group of individuals located a bundle of marijuana weighing 22-pounds, worth an estimated $10,000. The marijuana was transported to the Ajo Station for further processing.
In a third incident south of Gila Bend, agents patrolling the area discovered eleven makeshift backpacks of marijuana hidden within a desert wash. The marijuana had a combined weight of 468-pounds and was valued at $210,000. The marijuana was transported to the Wellton Station for further processing.
