Wellton Station Border Patrol Agents Seize Nearly 700 Pounds Of Marijuana Over Weekend

US-Border-PatrolUnited States Border Patrol agents from Yuma Sector’s Wellton Station seized a combined 686 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $343,000 and arrested five smugglers during the weekend. 

Agents derailed three separate smuggling efforts east of Papago Mountain and south of the Camino Del Diablo road on the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge. 

Friday, agents apprehended two Mexican nationals found lying under a tree and guarding 474 pounds of marijuana.  Saturday, three more Mexican nationals were arrested backpacking 127 pounds of marijuana.  Sunday, agents found an additional 85 pounds abandoned in the same area. 

The smugglers will be presented for prosecution by the United States Attorney’s Office.  The narcotics will be destroyed.
