Yuma International Airport Dedicating Hangar To WWII Flying Ace

Yuma International Airport will hold a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for their new $5 million Aviation Industrial Center within the airport’s Defense Contractor Complex on Wednesday. It will be dedicated to World War Two flying ace, Joe Foss. Foss was a United States Marine Corps fighter pilot, and in 1942, he flew the F4F Wildcat, and became America’s first “ace-of-aces”. He was credited with 26 aerial victories and was awarded the Medal of Honor. Foss served as the Executive Officer of Marine Fighting Squadron 121, which has been re-activated as MCAS Yuma’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter squadron. The dedication begins at 5pm. The Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be in attendance.
