Yuma Police On The Lookout For Two Suspects In Armed Robbery

The Yuma Police Department says they are seeking two men who allegedly held up two other men as they were walking on a sidewalk in the area of Magnolia Avenue and Third Street Sunday night. Police say a vehicle pulled up by the victims and one of the occupants got out and demanded money from one of the men walking while armed with a handgun and was given an undisclosed amount of money. The vehicle a tan colored 2005 Buick Rendezvous left the area and was later seen by a responding officer who attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and later struck a tree in the front yard of a residence in the area of the 400 block of South 24th Avenue. Two occupants in the vehicle ran. One male subject was taken into custody on scene and the other subject described as a Hispanic male got away. The Buick Rendezvous was discovered to have been reported stolen from the Yuma area on October 9th. The male subject on scene, who has been arrested is identified as 20-year-old Joel Lara. Lara was injured during the collision and taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for what appeared to be a non-life threatening injury. There were no other injuries reported during the incident. The case remains under investigation.
